Today we have the pleasure of looking into the vivo T1 5G, a mid-ranged smartphone that looks ready for anything. Let's see how it fares.

Ahh, smartphone gaming. How we've moved up from the yesteryears of endless runners to a competitive scene with millions of viewers around the world. Now, if you're planning to jump into an immersive experience on the go or you think it's high time for an upgrade from an age old smartphone, here's something you'd probably want to check out. Today we have the pleasure of looking into the vivo T1 5G, a smartphone exuding classy confidence, and is armed with impressive specs to boot. Let's see how it fares.

PACKAGING AND INCLUSIONS

The T1 5G comes in quite an unassuming compact white box. vivo’s keeping it simple here, really. Once you open it up you’ll be met with the T1 5G itself, a fast charger, USB Type-C cable, manual, SIM ejector pin, and a case. No earphones bundled here, unfortunately. No, there’s no bundled earphones here because it doesn’t have a headphone jack. And while wireless earbuds coming in with the box here would be quite welcomed, that may jack up the price more than it already is (we’ll get to this bit later). 

DESIGN

The T1 5G is a looker. It features a modern design that looks gorgeous and classy. The bump housing its camera setup and flash accentuates its overall look, if I wasn’t too careful with phones I’d personally use this without a case.

There’s a USB Type-C port at the bottom for charging and data, in between the SIM tray access and speaker grill. There’s the volume rocker and power button on the right side, and that’s about it. There’s a mic on the bottom and top to note. 

The SIM tray lets you plug in two nano cards here. Shame there's no microSD card slot, but hey there's plenty of room here, and of course cloud storage if you do happen to fill up that 128GB storage.

DISPLAY

Up front is the glorious 6.44-inch display with a teardrop notch and a fingerprint scanner on the LCD itself. Resolution is 2404 x 1080, and refresh rate is a smooth 90Hz. Other options for visual enhancements such are there. Meanwhile Smart Switch is enabled by default for the refresh rate that can dynamically adapt based on the usage scenario, but you can manually select 90Hz if you wish. Of course, 60Hz panels are perfectly fine, but it's good to have the option to switch to a higher refresh rate if it's there. 

The teardrop notch is okay, although some would want a punch hole option for the camera for that more modern look. This isn't necessarily an issue, but I can see where others are coming from when it comes to aesthetics.

Also loving the AMOLED panel here. Brightness levels are good. vivo says it features 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and has a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. HDR10+ certification is here as well as SGS Eye Care Certification. Overall, multimedia experience and gaming are great.

 

CAMERA

vivo markets the T1 5G as a gaming phone, but that doesn't mean you're not getting The camera setup you'll get here are 64MP with F/1.79 aperture, 8MP ultra wide angle, and 2MP with 4cm focus distance. For video, you can shoot 1080P 60FPS and 4K 30FPS. There are two levels of stabilization with varying crops, and they're pretty much okay. Check out the samples here:

SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE

The T1 5G is a pleasure of a smartphone to use. Quite well-specced with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G with Adreno 642L GPU paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. Performance is butter smooth and snappy, but the boatload of bloatware you have to deal with can be a pain. Agoda, vivo's own browser, and appstore, LinkedIn, Netflix, and other social media apps come packaged. 

That doesn't necessarily sully the experience here since you can just install a new launcher should you wish and disable/uninstall the apps you don't like, but the amount that it came with is just too much. To note, 25.34GB is occupied by the OS and other included apps. And yeah, vivo's FunTouch OS 12 is here. 

On the other hand, games like Genshin Impact and Punishing Gray Raven are great to play. Crank it up to Ultra should you wish. And of course, for reference here are the benchmark results for you.

BATTERY LIFE

4,700mAh of battery joins you in your crusade away from cables, and it's enough for daily usage. This does depend solely on your usage so your mileage may vary. For charging, we were able to get about 42% of battery for 30 minutes of charging. So that's all well and good.

VERDICT

Mobile gaming is certainly improving with a lot of titles from competitive titles to RPGs becoming more and more mainstream. This is where vivo is aiming at with the T1 5G. The industry keeps on growing, and current and upcoming big-budget titles with eye-candy visuals on mobile would require more firepower, and the T1 5G can provide just that. If you're looking to upgrade or you just want to dip into smartphone gaming, you can elevate the experience by jumping up a level with the vivo T1 5G.
