Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 8400 RGB CUDIMM Review

Kingston has equipped its FURY BEAST with the new CUDIMM standard, and that's what we're going to check out today.

 

It’s great to see DDR5 showing huge surges in performance since its conception, and of course, the only way is up. Even with plenty of innovations like the CAMM 2 that we’ve seen from Kingston back at COMPUTEX 2024, we’re still seeing new things pop up. One of those is the new CUDIMM memory modules that delivers improved performance and stability compared to the currently available kits. With that said, Kingston has equipped its FURY BEAST with the new CUDIMM standard, and that's what we're going to check out today.

What is CUDIMM?

DDR5 speeds keep increasing, so stability and data integrity are becoming more critical issues that need to be mitigated. With higher speeds, more electric noise and jitter risk can cause errors or system instabilities. In this regard, JEDEC addresses this by introducing a requirement for DDR5 modules operating at 6400MT/s and above to include a Client Clock Driver (CKD) to improve signal integrity with precise clock signals on the memory module to reduce such risks. These new modules are labeled as CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs, which also uses the same sockets as the legacy DDR5 modules but will require BIOS updates in order for them to be compatible. 

PACKAGING

This is quite the standard packaging Kingston does for its high-end offerings I believe, and it's one of those presentations that add up to what it is. We've seen Kingston's other DDR5 products that ship in plastic shells as they are such as the Kingston DDR5 FURY Beast, so yeah this is still much preferable.

Once you open it up, there's the Kingston FURY Renegade 8400 RGB DDR5 CUDIMM RGB itself inside a protective plastic shell as well as the usual Kingston FURY sticker. All pretty standard here.

DESIGN

What can I say? This is basically the Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 design that we've taken a look a couple of years back, so this is a pretty familiar sight. Still edgy and aggressive compared to the FURY Beast that features more subtle aesthetics.

Those who love RGB in their systems can take pleasure in Kingston's patented Infrared Sync Technology so nothing's out of sync. There's also plenty of lighting options that you can try out and explore using Kingston's FURY CTRL RGB Software, which can be downloaded directly from the Microsoft Store or Kingston's website. And yeah if you're not one for fancy RGB lights, you can also turn that off. 

PERFORMANCE

For our tests here, we'll be working with an Intel Ultra 9 285K and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU on a GIGABYTE Z890 AI TOP Motherboard with 48GB of Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5 8400 RGB CUDIMM.

As mentioned, games are tested with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, because who uses an integrated graphics in this day and age?

Kingston delivers an impressive feat with the FURY Renegade DDR5 8400 RGB CUDIMM. Indeed, it's capable in both intensive gaming and productivity, excelling in the suite of benchmarks it went through our tests. Kingston's longstanding reputation in its product quality is also in play here, not to mention the warranty that the company offers with its products. Those who require RGB lighting in their gaming setups can also rest easy with the setup in the FURY Renegade DDR5 8400 RGB CUDIMM, no complaints here. With all that said, while the technology is still in its early stages, it's great to see that it shows a lot of promise, and we can only expect more developments in performance from here on out.
